Dr. Kun Liu is a licensed acupuncturist both in California and Texas, and is currently practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Texas. She strongly believes that treating patients both physically and psychologically is the ultimate goal of healing. She has over 15 years of clinical experience, and her specialties include:
Education, Training, and Experience
Dr. Liu was born and raised in a family of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctors in China and grew up learning Chinese medicine as a child. She is the third generation of Chinese medicine practitioners in her family. She holds her bachelor’s degree in Acupuncture from Tian Jin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and a doctorate degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Five Branches University in San Jose, USA. She is also passionate about psychology and received her master’s degree in psychology at California State University, Los Angeles.
Dr. Liu underwent intensive training in China that covered both Chinese and Western medicine. This combination allows her to understand and explain diseases from both perspectives to better help patients. She honed her skills in high-pressure clinics where she was treating over 100 patients a day.
Fertility Training
Dr. Liu’s father is a famous Chinese medicine herbalist in China, and she obtained valuable experience from him in treating infertility. While she was working in America, she followed a famous Chinese Medicine fertility expert, Dr. Yue-Fen Hu, who is a professor at Five Branches University, San Jose. They treated female infertility and provided IVF Support using acupuncture and herbal medicine, which successfully increased pregnancy rates and helped many families have babies.
Moreover, Dr. Liu had the rare opportunity to train under renowned fertility expert Dr. Biqin Wang at the TCM Master Heritage Center of Zhiqiang Guo . This training program only admitted five practitioners in the US, and she received intensive training on using TCM to complement Western medicine in supporting female infertility and IVFs. By combining TCM herbal formulas with acupuncture techniques, she has helped patients greatly increase their success rates for IVFs and pregnancy.
Additionally, Dr. Kun Liu has received specialized training in male infertility, with a focus on conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, oligospermia (low sperm count), azoospermia (absence of sperm), and urinary retention. Her expertise and experience enable her to provide high-quality medical care and support to patients dealing with these male reproductive issues. Whether through modern medical techniques or traditional Chinese medicine, Dr. Kun Liu is dedicated to helping male patients overcome these conditions to achieve their fertility goals.
Prediabetes and Other Internal Diseases Training
Dr. Liu learned a lot from her father. Besides infertility, she obtained valuable experience from him in treating prediabetes, gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, constipation, acid reflex, and many other internal diseases. She also did her continuing education in nutrition, which allows her to provide simple yet profound dietary coaching to patients. Such coaching increases success and decreases relapse rates.
Addiction Training
She also followed renowned auricular medicine expert, Dr. Lichun Huang, and her first-generation student, Dr. Eva Kwong. From them, she learned to effectively treat many problems via auricular acupuncture, including addiction, infertility, pain, and many other internal diseases. Due to the pandemic, many people turned to substances (e.g., marijuana, cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, etc.) to cope, which unfortunately turned into addiction afterwards. Dr. Liu has helped many such patients successful recover via auricular acupuncture, body acupuncture, and herbal medicine.
Pain Management Training
Pain management is also one of her expertise. Whether it’s neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, elbow pain, migraines, etc., these pains can be easily treated with acupuncture. Besides acupuncture, Dr. Liu usually combines cupping treatment to speed up the pain relief process. For knee pain, neuropathy, and sciatica, she has her own unique style to help relieve pain quickly.
Stroke Sequela Management Training
Dr. Liu graduated from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. Everyone who graduated from that acupuncture university learned how to use "Xiao Nao Kai Qiao" method (Awakening Brain and Opening Orifices) to treat stroke patients. She has been treating those patients in China and the US. She has learned a lot about how to use acupuncture and herbs to improve brain health, which is super important for us nowadays, as dementia and Alzheimer's are on the rise. Prioritizing your brain health is the key to better managing your aging and slowing down the aging process. Dr. Kun Liu would like to launch a brain health program soon to help people with brain-related issues. She welcomes practitioners who have expertise in this area to work with her and help more people.
Research
Dr. Liu has a research background as well. She observed cells under microscope while she was working in China. By puncturing very particular acupoints, certain cells’ numbers and shapes can be changed, which is phenomenal. For example, ST 36 (Zu San Li) can boost white blood cells (WBC) for those who have a low WBC count and decrease WBC for those who have a high WBC count. She has a unique scientific way to precisely apply acupuncture to different individuals’ situations.
Western Versus Eastern Medicine
Western Medicine mainly concentrates on the person’s disease and on eliminating the disease. Meanwhile, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focuses on the diseased person, helping the person to build strong immunity and to have a long and healthy life. Take COVID as an example: mainstream medicine targets the viruses, but TCM centers on each individuals’ body constitutions. Viruses are changing constantly, but if you have a healthy body at its optimal level, you can fight back with minimal or no symptoms. Dr. Liu believes that focusing on your own health nowadays is more important than ever. It’s like depositing money to your physical bank so that you can withstand tough times. We warmly welcome you to visit East West Natural Health Care to boost your immunity.
Our Uniqueness
What could Dr. Liu do differently than other acupuncture practitioners? Dr. Kun Liu has the mindset that testing provides a baseline of your health, and remarkable treatment results should speak for themselves. During your initial visit, Dr. Liu would test your 12 Meridian systems and Heart Rate Variability to gauge a baseline of your current health situation. After that, she would test your body sensitivity type if needed. According to your specific data, she would customize a precise treatment plan that might include acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, auricular acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, lifestyle coaching, and diet coaching. Despite being a TCM practitioner, she also compares Western lab tests before and after treatments for those chronic conditions. This makes it easy for patients to understand their situation and see their improvement.
