Dr. Kun Liu L.Ac, DAOM, MD(China)

Meet Dr. Kun Liu

A Family Tradition. A Lifelong Calling.

I was born and raised in China, where Traditional Chinese Medicine has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I am a third-generation Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, but my journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine truly began with my father.

My grandfather was a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, but he passed away when my father was only 18. I never had the chance to meet him. My father carried that tradition forward and became my greatest teacher and inspiration.

Growing up in China, I watched my father dedicate his life to his patients. He was a respected Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor in our community, and I saw firsthand how much trust people placed in him. Patients would come to him with difficult, chronic health problems, and I watched him use Traditional Chinese Medicine to help them regain their health. For more than 33 years, my father’s TCM hospital, Shen Nong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been part of the community in China, serving generations of patients.

Those experiences left a deep impression on me.

I also grew up experiencing Traditional Chinese Medicine myself. In my childhood, I rarely relied on Western medications. My family often used natural herbs, traditional food therapy, and other principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine to support our health.

Over time, I realized that what I was witnessing was more than medicine.

It was a tradition being passed from one generation to the next.

My father gave me much more than knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He showed me what it means to care deeply for your patients, to keep learning, and to dedicate your life to helping others.

His practice, his dedication to his patients, and the impact he made in our community inspired me to begin my own journey.

Today, my brother and I are continuing that tradition in our own ways. He practices alongside my father in China, primarily using Chinese herbal medicine to care for his patients. I am proud to see him helping so many people and continuing the work that has been such an important part of our family.

From China to the United States

The reason I came to the United States was my deep interest in psychology and the connection between the mind and the body. My father taught me an important lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career: we should not focus only on treating the disease; we should also care for the person who has the disease.

This philosophy is deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which looks at the whole person and considers the relationship between the individual, their environment, and the many aspects of life that influence health and well-being. I wanted to understand this connection more deeply—not only from a physical perspective, but also from a psychological and emotional one. That led me to pursue my Master’s degree in Psychology in the United States at California State University of Los Angeles.

While studying psychology, I continued to deepen my work in Traditional Chinese Medicine and became a licensed acupuncturist in California. I later continued my education by pursuing my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in San Jose at Five Branches University.

In China, becoming an acupuncture doctor requires attending medical school and completing at least five years of intensive medical education and clinical training. At Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I received comprehensive training in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine, with extensive clinical training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

My experience living, studying, and practicing in both cultures has shaped the way I practice today.

I believe we do not have to choose between East and West. There is tremendous value in both. My goal is to bring together the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, modern medical knowledge, nutrition, lifestyle, and a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection.

I believe true wellness goes beyond treating a disease or a symptom. It means caring for the whole person—mind, body, and soul.

This belief is at the heart of East West Natural Health Care. I am deeply grateful for the ancient wisdom I have inherited and learned throughout my life, and I hope to continue sharing that wisdom while integrating it with modern knowledge to help more people along their own wellness journey.

My Clinical Passion

With 17 years of clinical experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and the United States, I am a licensed acupuncturist in both California and Texas, a NCCAOM-certified Oriental Medicine Practitioner, and I hold a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and a Master’s degree in Psychology.

Over the years, I have developed a particular interest in fertility and reproductive health, including female and male infertility and support during IUI and IVF. My training in fertility medicine has included learning from experienced TCM fertility practitioners in both China and the United States.

I also work with patients seeking support for pain, digestive and metabolic health, emotional well-being, and healthy aging and longevity.

What I enjoy most about my work is getting to know each patient and creating a treatment approach that is personalized to their individual needs.

As I continue to grow, I am also in the process of developing my own team and building a practice that reflects my own vision for Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Beyond Medicine

There is another part of my story that is very important to me: my connection to Chinese culture.

I enjoy learning to play the guzheng, practicing Chinese calligraphy, and staying connected to the traditions and culture I grew up with.

I am still a beginner in both, but I enjoy the process of learning and the connection these traditional arts give me to my roots.

For me, these are not simply hobbies. They are part of who I am.

They remind me of my family, my roots, and the traditions that shaped me.

Today, I hope to continue what my father began—not by simply following in his footsteps, but by creating my own path while staying true to the values he taught me.

I am building my own practice, creating my own path, and helping more people discover the value of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This is the tradition I inherited.
This is the work I chose.
And this is the legacy I hope to continue.
